Tai Chi as a martial art
Recently there have been a few clips online of people applying Tai-Chi in a realistic way, as in demonstrating skill against a reasonably non-compliant opponent. They are useful clips to watch even if you are not interested in the martial side of Tai-Chi as they give you a good idea of the body use Tai-Chi engenders and a practical demonstration of 'internal power' beyond the simple 'throw my own student through the air' demos.
This last one is worth it for the flares alone:

I am seeking a sports medicine expert who can help my karate team with some general stretching and preparation techniques. I like how you practice martial arts, but the kids need to understand more of the mental side than the physical side. Angie's List is a site I remember hearing about that has sports medicine contractors, so I'll look there, but any advice from you would be appreciated. Your opinion is valuable!

The aim of this blog is share my passion for Tai-Chi, Martial Arts, Yoga and Bodywork. This will include links to stuff I think people will find interesting as well as my own writing. I did keep an earlier blog here: http://www.donotthinkofablueelephant.co.uk/ but I've let that fall by the wayside. Feel free to have a look around there though some of my opinions have changed (which they tend to do if you keep growing) but I still like some of the content. |
